The Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia has been instituted with  decree 8 July  2005 with the  name “Scuola Superiore ad ordinamento speciale”.

IUSS fulfils an advanced teaching and research model successfully implemented by other prestigious institutions in Italy, like the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Scuola Sant’Anna in Pisa.

Due to the completeness of its education and training fields, which allows a strong interdisciplinary approach, the mission of IUSS is that of contributing to the growth of a small number of selected students by offering them, at any step of their higher education, qualified programs enhancing their capabilities and knowledge.

The Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia - IUSS - offers advanced international undergraduate and graduate programs in the following fields:

• Undergraduate Internal courses open, on a merit base, to the most promising students of Pavia´s University.
• II Level University Master degrees fully taught in English providing a strong International approach.
• PhD Degrees provide an interdisciplinary point of view and exposure to cutting edge research.

Other activities related also to research are:

• the International Research Center on Roman Law, Cedant 
• the International Design Seminar
